Sweater Weather Is Upon Us!

The cooler temperatures are upon us and we want to make sure your vehicle is ready for it.

Here are some helpful tips and maintenance suggestions for the upcoming fall season:

• Tires: Check all your tire tread depths and tire pressures (your vehicle's manual will state the recommended tire pressure and most times you can find it located on the manufacture's placard sticker located on the driver's side door jamb). Best to check when the tire is cold or has sat at idle for at least three hours. Best practice is to check your tires monthly at a minimum. Check for any cracks, strange wear, or punctures on your tires.  
• Battery: Test your vehicle's battery strength. Summer heat is tough on batteries, and colder weather exposes a batteries weakness.
• Wipers and Washer Fluid: Replace streaking wipers, cracked wiper blades, or wiper blades where the rubber is brittle and hard. Ensure your washer fluid reservoir is filled with a freeze-resistant washer fluid. We tend to get a lot of rainy fall days and want to have the best visibility while driving.
• Lights: Test all headlights, taillights, brake lights, and turn signals to stay visible in the shortening fall days. It is getting darker earlier, make sure your lights are set correctly and in working order.
• Heater and Defroster: Check that your defroster and heater blow strong warm air to help keep windows clear when needed.
• Fluids and Oil: Check coolant levels and make sure you have antifreeze coolant as recommended by your manufacture (do not rely on colour alone). Never use only water (distilled or not) long term as it will freeze and cause failure. Check your maintenance schedule for the oil change intervals in your vehicle's manual. If unsure we advise an oil change every 5,000kms.
• Brakes: Inspect your brake pads, rotors, and brake fluid for safe stopping on slippery, wet, and leaf-covered roads. Road conditions can change rapidly in fall weather, be ready.
